Story: The Rainbow Incident

I wasn't feeling my best that day.

I had a fight with my closest Friend, my room was a mess, my mom was nagging me the whole day, I had about 50,000 things to do in my to-do list, I had zero motivation to start any of them and to top it all off, I discovered a new zit on my forehead.

At about 2pm I had given up on the day and was lying in my bed doing absolutely nothing.

When suddenly my 4 year old brother came bounding up the stairs shouting, "Colours! Colours!" Of course, I didn't know what he was talking about, and I didn't care either. I just wanted to stay in my bed all day, away from anyone and anything else. But my brother had kicked my bedroom door open, took me by the hand and forced me to go with him downstairs, to the glass kitchen doors offering a full view of the sky. He pointed upwards and there was the most vivid rainbow I had ever seen.

My brother grinned at me and said, "See?"

This has been a Story.

Thank you for making my ten-year-old self happy.

I've always been interested in modelling. I took up ballet a few years ago and my favourite part of the run-up to a recital-apart from the actual dancing- were the dance photoshoots. I can't really explain why I loved it so much, but I did, and every year before a recital I always looked forward to it. I enjoyed both being in the pictures and helping behind the scenes. To be a model was actually one of the things I wanted to be when I was ten. But since I'm not exactly what you'd call "model material," (I'm only 5ft tall!) my hopes of being one quickly diminished.

And then, like a fairy godmother, one of my friends turned up and decided to fulfill my childhood dream. (insert tinkly fairytale music here)

Said friend is Brónagh, who blogs at glamourandgrungefashion. Working with Eleanor, who blogs on apostrophe-rules, they organised a themed fashion shoot, and they asked me to work with them! I jumped at the opportunity of course, the ten-year-old inside me jumping up and down and dancing the conga.

The fashion shoot is titled "The Reluctant Debutantes," which is, according to Eleanor, about "seven young ladies in an alternate Kilkenny, with the marriage market of a hundred years ago." You can check out their site by clicking here, and if you want to have a look at the story of The Reluctant Debutantes, here it is, in chronological order. I highly recommend not skipping the stories!

I had the most amazing time working with these people and I hope I did my character, Alice, justice. A big thank you to all the ladies I worked with, especially to Brónagh and Eleanor for making this photoshoot happen.

I hope you enjoy their story!

I'll see you guys soon,

Library Adventures

I am writing this from the library.

I haven't been in the library for a while now, about a year really. Nor have I been reading a lot of books. Oh a few books here and there maybe, but no constant reading pattern, like I had when I was in second year. Mostly because of the Junior Certs. Those damned exams ruined me.

(I'm writing this from my laptop now. My computer session was over. Sad face)

Anyway, I want to show you guys the books I borrowed. I had quite a hard time picking these books mostly because there were so many books I wanted to read and the maximum amount of items I could borrow was only six! I spent about half an hour going back and forth the shelves trying to decide. In the end I chose these books:

I think Meg Rosoff is a very good writer. You can never expect what she will incorporate to the plot, and I think that's brilliant. But what I love the most about her books is her writing style. I just love it. I have read her other books "What I Was" and "Just In Case," and I have been meaning to read this one but never really got around to doing it until now. I am very excited.

Okay so I think I saw this one on tumblr at some point and it had really good reviews, so I just wanted to check this out!

Last year I started this series and I loved it! It has the most horrid plot, and I don't mean that in the "I don't like this book," kind of way. I mean that in a "Wow that's really disturbing but such an eye-opener" kind of way. Again I have been wanting to read this book for a long time now but can't because of those exams.

I gave this book as a gift for one of my bestfriends a couple years ago. I remember thinking it seemed very good so I want to read this now!

I read this amaaaaazing book by Eva Ibbotson (such a fantastic writer) when I was in first year, and it has really stuck to me ever since. Especially this quote, because of reasons:
"They were no longer afraid of being left or being lonely. For they understood that when something belongs to you, it belongs. And that is all there is to it."
Anyway, I wasn't going to take it since I've already read it, but then I saw an audio book of it in a box in the kid section, and I was still not going to take it but then I saw that it was read by David freaking Tennant. That sold me.

I've never only experienced listening to an audio book once in second year, when we read To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee in class. I listened to a bit of this audio book in the library and it was a really good experience, and not just because of David Tennant's voice either.

Just in case you guys wanted proof...
David Tennant, though. Seriously. Have you seen him as the Tenth Doctor? And have you seen his hair? (Danielle, your fangirl is showing.)

And that's it! That is all the books I borrowed in the library. I really hope I'd enjoy them and I will keep you guys posted! :)

See you soon,

"Touchdown confirmed."

No, guys, I didn't watch it live, I was too busy sleeping. I know, I'm sorry. But as I checked tumblr this morning, I saw the post. Tears welled up in my eyes, I was shaking- still am. Because our rover is on Mars, motherchucker!

Seriously guys. Seriously. I really regret not staying up late to watch it live, but I AM SO HAPPY. I feel so happy. And excited. And giddy. And wow. Just wow.

I don't. I just. Okay GIF TIME!

Right. Okay. So I'll see you guys soon. I just had to let that out.

The Playlist Of My Life

Boomzine on tumblr made this post about making a playlist that will basically be played if your life was a film. I decided to do it! I had a really good time choosing songs and I encourage other people to do the same because it was SO MUCH FUN.

Each song corresponds to a scene or part of the movie that is my life. It took me a while to think of some of the songs, also a lot of reflection, haha. Anyway, here is the playlist. :)

1. Opening Credits- Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
2. Getting to know the character- Primadonna by Marina and the Diamonds
3. Character Observations- Greetings in Braille by The Elected
4. Walking Theme- Cicadas and Gulls by Feist
5. When things go wrong (running)- The World Is Mine (I Don't Know Anything) by Alex Day
6. The Breakdown- For Real by Okkervil River
7. Looking Closer- Game Shows Touch Our Lives by The Mountain Goats
8. It's Okay- Everything's Okay by Lenka
9. Fini- Good Morning Sunshine by Alex Day

And that's it! Thank you to Caitlin for this idea. As I've said I had a fun time doing it, and if you're interested feel free to do it too, cause it's fun.

I'll see you guys soon!

"For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)

It is always ourselves we find in the sea." -E.E. Cummings

We visited Cork about two weeks ago and here are some of the pictures I took.I had a really fun time in there and I can't wait to be back soon!

We stayed with the loveliest family in the loveliest house ever. I mean look at that picture above. That's the view from their backyard.

Me and my brother.

The house we stayed in.

Look guys I found an Irish TARDIS!

We went to the fishing port, or whatever you call it, and we fished for a while. I enjoyed it so much I was seriously considering being a fishermangirl in the future. It was just a lot of fun.

So, yeah! I know I haven't blogged in a long while but I just want you to know that I haven't forgotten about you guys! I have been on blogger's block for more or less a year now and I'm just trying to let it pass. Thank you for following me! I hope to get back to the swing of writing soon.

I Love You.
